The Light at the End of the Tunnel

My last three weeks of college as an undergraduate were the roughest, most difficult weeks of my life. I felt beat down. I talked like I was beat down. I probably looked beat down too! I kept telling people I wasn’t going to make it. I could see the light at the end of the tunnel, but getting to that light was going to take some very serious work, on top of all the work I had already done.

The problem is that once we see the light at the end of the tunnel we start thinking it’s all good now. We can start coasting now, right? On the contrary, that is precisely when you need to hunker down. This is when the real works starts. The light is there to motivate you (Imagine how you would feel if there was no light). It is there as a promise that all the work you’ve done is not in vain. The enemy wants you nowhere near that light. If he had it his way you would turn and run in the opposite direction.

So the time when you can see the light but can’t reach it is very important. That is when your resolve is going to be tested. That is when your desire to reach the end is going to be tried. This is going to happen no matter what you are trying to achieve. It could be losing 20lbs or getting your master’s degree.

When you see that light you can have a little party for making it that far. You can even take a break. But after that you better put on your fighting gear because the light doesn’t come to you. You have to make it to the light!
